Melanie Hagerman

Legal Fellow

Melanie joined A Better Balance’s Southern Office in September 2022 as a Harvard Law Review Public Interest Fellow. She received her J.D. from Harvard Law School, where she was a member of the Health Law and Policy Clinic, LGBTQ+ Advocacy Clinic, and the Harvard Journal of Law and Gender. Melanie also served as the Reproductive Justice Initiative Team Lead and Co-Chair for the Mississippi Delta Project at Harvard Law School. During law school, Melanie interned with the ACLU of Southern California’s Gender Equity and Reproductive Justice Project, the ACLU Reproductive Freedom Project, and the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts.

Melanie is a proud Tennessean, and graduated magna cum laude from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN, where she was a peer sex educator and interned with Planned Parenthood of Tennessee and North Mississippi. At A Better Balance, Melanie will educate and advocate for workers with caregiving responsibilities across the South, with a particular focus on workers in rural Tennessee.
